The head of the Committee to Protect Disabled Karabakh Veterans, the level I disabled, Magrur Badalsoy, accuses the officers of the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC) of the Interior Ministry of extortion. At today's press conference held in IRFS Media Center, he said that on 18 July, two employees of the GDCOC came to the shop, owned by members of the Committee at Bakikhanov Settlement, at the crossroads of Peace and Youth Streets, illegally detained the seller and took away 15,000 AZN cash. No document was provided for the detention of the seller or the seizure of the money. The Head of the Committee called the Interior Ministry, the Prosecutor's Office and the Ombudsman, but it was no use. The seller was only released after involvement of the human rights activist Elchin Behbudov. "But our money was not returned. They called me to GDCOC to return my money, but I was subjected to psychological pressure instead. Then I was told that the money would be refunded, provided that I give them, 40% of the amount" said Badalsoy. According to him, he still has not received the money, and despite complaining to the president, Prosecutor General and Ombudsman no investigation has been launched. He also stated that members of GDCOC committed similar acts at a nearby store which was caught on security cameras. The Committee appealed to the Mayor of Baku with the notice of intention to hold a picket in front of GDCOC and the Ombudsman's Office under the slogan: "Bring back our money," "Respect human rights," "Down with the security officers of GDCOC!" on August 5.
