FORMER BUSINESSMAN CONTINUES FIGHT FOR HIS PROPERTY RIGHTS
Select Category:
On July 2, former businessman Elshad Mammadov held a press conference at IRFS in connection with violation of his property rights. According to Mammadov, in 2012 he bought two flats in a sky-scraper near the Officers Park in Baku. The building was constructed by Avesta Group of Companies owned by Ibrahim Ibrahimli (Nehramli). Mammadov says he paid 400,000 AZN for the flats. But later he found out that the employees of the construction company had sold one of the apartments to someone else without his knowledge. "I began demanding my apartment back, which Ibrahimli did not like and with the help of courts he took away my second flat as well ", said Mammadov. Mammadov also appealed to the courts, but they ruled in Ibrahimli's favor. But Mammadov did not give up and send an appeal to the Anti-Corruption Department under Prosecutor General's Office. His appeal was examined and referred to the Plenum of the Supreme Court. Two months ago Supreme Court was set to review the matter, but later ceased considering it. Mammadov believes that it was because Ibrahim Ibrahimli influenced the court. "Let Ibrahimli know that I won't stop here. I shall get back what I have right to get" said Mammadov. Mammadov said that he has moved to Gazakh region after facing pressure from Ibrahimli's men, but they continued to harass him. The former businessman noted that he intends to take the matter to the European Court, where his rights will be defended by lawyer Intigam Aliyev.
